Solar Exemption

Solar Tax Exemption Guidelines (RSA72:62)

The solar exemption was adopted by a majority vote in 2021, to exempt the assessed value of solar related equipment, for property tax purposes. The tax exemption shall only be in the amount of 100% of the assessed value of qualifying solar related equipment under these statutes. Per RSA 72:61, a “solar energy system” means a system which utilizes solar energy to heat or cool the interior of a building or to heat water for use in a building and which includes one or more collectors and a storage container. “Solar energy system” also means a system which provides electricity for a building by the use of photovoltaic panels.

You will need a permanent application (PA29 form) and completed qualification worksheet to apply for an exemption or credit. If the property is in a trust or life estate a qualification statement (PA33 form) needs to be completed and submitted with either a copy of the trust or the deed. All forms with the required information must be submitted by April 15th.

The solar panels must be installed prior to April 1st of the year you are applying for.
