Town Clerk Information

VISIT THE TOWN CLERK

The first thing you should do is visit the Town Clerk’s office at Citizens’ Hall, 9 Citizens’ Hall Road. During this visit, you can do the following:

1.  Register your vehicles.

If you have moved here from outside New Hampshire:

Bring the title to your vehicle or the name and address of the lien holder, date of purchase, and current mileage. Also, bring your current registration and proof of residency (real estate closing papers, lease, utility bill showing your Lyndeborough address, etc.).  We will need either a title or an old registration, preferably both, in order to help you. ALL of the people listed on the title must be present in order to process the paperwork.

We accept cash, check and credit/debit cards (there is a convenience fee of 2.99% of the transaction with a minimum fee of $2.50 for credit/debit cards). We have most types of license plates available here, but some types (such as vanity plates) can be ordered or may have to be requested by you at the DMV.

If you have moved here from within New Hampshire:

You don’t need to update your registration until it’s time to renew it, but you must change your address with the Motor Vehicle Licensing Division Update Personal Information | NH Division of Motor Vehicles.  When you renew your registration, bring your current registration and proof of residency (see above) and a method of payment (see above).

2. Register to vote.

You may choose to register as a member of a particular political party, or you can register as Undeclared.  Registering for a party allows you to vote in that party’s primary elections.

To register to vote in New Hampshire, you must be a US citizen, at least 18 years old on election, and a New Hampshire resident. For more information, please visit the Secretary of State’s website.

3. Dog Licensing

Get a license for your dog(s). Tags are available January 1st of each year. You must license your dog(s) every year by April 30th.

The cost of a one-year license varies. Not neutered or spayed:  $9.00 Neutered or spayed: $6.50

If you are 65 or older, the cost to license one dog is $2.25.  For additional dogs, the rates above will apply.

Town Meeting

ATTEND A TOWN GOVERNMENT MEETING

In a small town such as Lyndeborough, the citizens make most of the decisions through committees, commissions and boards. These groups meet regularly to discuss various aspects of town government and to make decisions and recommendations. These meetings are open to the public, and we encourage you to attend.

Click on the Boards & Committees menu for a list and for meeting information. Most meetings are held at Citizens’ Hall or at the library. The Town Calendar is the best place to see when and where the next meetings will be.

Police Department

POLICE DEPARTMENT

If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1 or 603-673-1414 and speak to Dispatch (our Emergency Services are dispatched out of the Milford Area Communications Center).

The Police Station is located in Citizens’ Hall, but it is generally not staffed, as officers on duty are usually out on patrol.

You can get a Pistol Permit from the Police Department. Permits are no longer required for concealed carry in New Hampshire, but many residents still want the optional permit to take advantage of reciprocity with other states. A four-year permit costs $10 and the form is available online.

You may request a Vacant Property Check if you would like the Police Department to keep an eye on your home while you are away.

The Police Department is also a part of the Good Morning Program, where people who live alone and have age-related or other (such as medical) concerns can check in every day with Dispatch. If they have not checked in by a certain time each day, someone will be dispatched to make sure they are alright.

Fire Department

FIRE DEPARTMENT

To request a burn permit, please call 603-831-3355. If there is no answer, please leave your name, number, and the date and time. The Fire Officer on duty will return your call.

For More Information on Burn Permits click here.

The NH Division of Forests and Lands website also has an online permitting system. From the website you can apply for a burn permit or subscribe to receive daily notifications of each day’s Fire Danger classification. You may also call 866-643-4737 (toll free) to listen to the automated daily Fire Danger classification.

The Fire Department is currently looking for volunteers. Please fill out an application and mail it to them or drop it off when someone is there (the Fire Station is not staffed as we have a volunteer department). You may also call their non-emergency number at 603-654-9318 to leave a message. The Fire Department meets for training every Tuesday at 7:00 pm.

Lafayette Artillery

LAFAYETTE ARTILLERY

The Lafayette Artillery once owned the building known as Citizens’ Hall, where the Town Offices are now located (here’s a little snippet of history on that for you). If you have ever attended a Memorial Day observance or Veterans’ Day celebration in Lyndeborough or Wilton, you will have seen the Lafayette Artillery fire their antique brass cannon. For more information about The Lafayette Artillery, or to ask about joining, you can contact Captain Walter Holland at 603-654-2480. There’s also a book about them called Citizen soldiers: New Hampshire’s Lafayette Artillery Company, 1804-2004 by Lyndeborough residents Stephanie & Scott Roper.
