Statewide Ban on Burning
New Hampshire has implemented a prohibition on the kindling of any open fire and smoking in or near woodlands as a precaution against the increasing potential for wildfires due to severe drought conditions. This proclamation, issued by Governor Kelly A. Ayotte, takes effect on September 22, 2025, and includes exceptions for training fires, campfires in fire resistive rings, and certain types of fuel grills. The Division of Forests and Lands is responsible for enforcing these restrictions and providing updates on forest conditions. The online fire permit system has been suspended until weather conditions improve, and residents are encouraged to contact local fire departments for guidance on fire prevention measures.
